Lincoln in dreamland as fans eye Spurs awayday

- BY MARK WHILEY

IMPLY THE BEST

AT recent Lincoln games, before promotion to the Championship was sealed, a catchy chant was ringing out - “Tottenham away, ole, ole”.

That's the away trip supporters have got their eye on next season. The Imps have fulfilled their part of the bargain by securing a place in the second tier for the first time since 1961.

Jack Moylan smashed home in stoppage time to win 2-1 at Reading, just after Bolton's draw with Stockport guaranteed promotion for Lincoln.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs will be one of their opponents in 2026/27.

Nearby Nottingham Forest would be another dream match for fans who must think they are living out some kind of fantasy.

Ten years ago, Lincoln, who dropped out of the Football League in 2011, finished 13th in the National League, where opponents included Altrincham, Southport and Guiseley.

Lincoln's remarkable rise over the last decade now includes three promotions, a historic run to the FA Cup quarterfinals as a non-league side, and winning the EFL Trophy at Wembley. There are no A-list celebrity owners, no megabucks sponsorship deals. In fact, a behind-the-scenes exposé would be rather bland.

As chief executive Liam Scully (below) puts it: ‘It takes a village. Boringly consistent behaviour over a length of time.

“We've rarely deviated from our plan. And when we have, we've slapped ourselves and corrected course’
