Firefighter loses case over use of 'fireman'

AN "old-fashioned" senior firefighter who failed to call out colleagues who "belittled" a junior female colleague has lost his unfair dismissal case.

Simon Bailey, 58, was given a written warning by bosses after failing to challenge crew members using the word "fireman" to Sasha Acheson.

The former England rugby player had gone to station manager Mr Bailey for help to stop the “sexism”. She said the word had been obsolete since the 1980s and claimed she had also been called “a stick with t*ts”.
