Husband had a beautiful death says probe wife

A WIDOW investigated by police for aiding her husband's assisted suicide revealed yesterday that she has at last found peace.

Mother-of-three Louise Shackleton was probed for 10 months over husband Antony's suicide before the Crown Prosecution Service finally decided last month that the legal test for prosecution was not met.

Antony, 59, had Motor Neurone Disease and Louise said she took him to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland so he could escape an agonising death.

“The pain of him dying is still here and my heart is broken - but there is peace,” said Louise, of North Yorkshire.

“I realise that with Dignitas I no longer fear death. My life is worth living as I can afford to not suffer should an illness threaten me. My death can be one of painless compassion.”
