Baby of unvaxed mum dies of whooping cough

A BABY born to an unvaccinated mum has died of whooping cough.

The death, the first from the disease this year says the UK Health Security Agency, comes as vaccine uptake is at its lowest in 15 years.

Dr Gayatri Amirthalingam, UKHSA deputy director, said: “Vaccination is the best defence against whooping cough. It is vital that pregnant women and young infants get vaccines at the right time, ideally 20-32 weeks. This passes protection to their baby in the womb.”
