BOXERS FLOORED MINUS VISAS

Sri Lanka’s boxing community has been dealt a disappointing blow as several national boxers have been unable to secure visas to compete at the upcoming IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships scheduled to take place in Dubai this month.

Despite being selected to represent the country on the world stage, multiple athletes were left unable to travel due to administrative lapses and delays in processing essential documentation.

Although eight boxers and eight officials were named to represent the country at the global event, the campaign has been overshadowed by logistical setbacks and a growing chorus of criticism from within the boxing community.

The issue has amplified wider concerns regarding the BASL’s governance. Stakeholders have noted that a Special General Meeting has yet to be convened to finalise the long-pending annual general meeting (AGM), while audited accounts are reportedly more than six months overdue.
