Sri Lanka tourism rises above adversity
Sri Lanka has long been celebrated as an island of warmth, hospitality and natural beauty, but its tourism sector has endured a turbulent journey in the past few years. Following the Easter Sunday tragedy, the global Covid pandemic and an unprecedented economic downturn, Sri Lanka's tourism is on a strong recovery path, with targets to exceed its 2018 record of 2.2 million visitors in 2025.
The industry has stood firm through national crises and global upheavals, only to face yet another challenge as torrential rains unleashed floods and devastating landslides across the country, claiming nearly 800 lives and displacing more than one million people.
