AN alleged stalker claiming to be Madeleine McCann gave the missing youngster’s great-aunt a note insisting that she could prove it, a court has heard.

- By Sophie Robinson

Julia Wandelt, 24, handed an envelope to Janet Kennedy, the aunt of Madeleine’s mother Kate, which she said contained information to support her claim.

Mrs Kennedy told a jury Wandelt approached her on May 3 last year at the annual event in the McCann’s home village of Rothley, Leics, on the anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance aged three in 2007 in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.

Stunned

Mrs Kennedy told Leicester Crown Court: “She presented me with an envelope with information in that would prove she was Madeleine. I was rather stunned.
