"In the 60s, I was in a band with my husband, Tony. I loved the energy and excitement of it all," Phyllis recalls. "All the boys in our band have passed away now."

Phyllis struggles with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a lung disease that causes breathing problems. Her husband, who had emphysema, died 12 years ago.

"Some people like myself find it hard to ask for help, but we need it," she says. "Now that I'm older, I can't quite do what I used to.

"When you're younger, you don't think you'll be in this position."

Back in 2007, Age UK helped the couple apply for a new car through a government scheme - something they didn't even know they were eligible for.
