White hot for the Royal Box

SIR David Beckham brought his mum Sandra along to enjoy a sizzling day at Wimbledon as British players enjoyed a red-hot start to the Championships.

With temperatures hitting a first-day record of 32.3C, it was a very good day to enjoy the air conditioning in the Royal Box on Centre Court.

The Beckhams watched the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz reach the second round after an epic five-set battle.

The Spaniard will now play British qualifier Oliver Tarvet. Earlier, during his scare against Italy’s Fabio Fognini, Alcaraz came to aid of a woman in her 60s who needed treatment for heat exhaustion, offering her a bottle of water.

Meanwhile, Becks, whose right wrist was bandaged after surgery last week, looked cool as a cucumber as he sat next to another sporting knight, former England manager Gareth Southgate.
