Twisted 'give way' sign blamed for crash deaths of young parents-to-be

A PREGNANT teen and her boyfriend died in a crash after a 'give way' sign was twisted and road markings had faded, an inquest heard.

Personal trainer Josh Alexander, 21, and lifeguard Jessica Poole, 18, died at the scene at about 5pm on June 5.

The collision with the DAF skip lorry happened at a crossroads in the village of Woodchurch, Kent.

PC Simon Masterson, a forensic collision investigator at Kent Police, told the inquest: "There were no warning signs at Plurenden Road of the crossroads ahead. This could have caused confusion to the driver approaching." He said worn markings and the give way sign rotated 61 degrees "could have been a contributing factor".

The lines have since been repainted and the sign put back. Kent Council said after a fatal crash it carries "out any work deemed to be needed".
