Turgid race is still ‘mega’

MERCEDES team principal Toto Wolff insists Monaco is still “a mega venue” for Formula One despite the lack of entertainment on the street circuit.

Lando Norris won from pole but, because the track in Monte Carlo is so tight, he did not have to break sweat to hold off Charles Leclerc behind him.

The top four cars finished in the same places they had started, while Lewis Hamilton only rose two positions to fifth because of a quicker pit stop than Isack Hadjar, and through Fernando Alonso’s engine failure.

But there was still plenty of entertainment to be found earlier in the weekend, with Saturday delivering another fantastic and fraught qualifying session as McLaren’s Norris grabbed pole.
