Travel chaos as 17m sun seekers descend on roads, rail and airports

Great bank holiday getaway to enjoy season's last hurrahs

MILLIONS of people have set off on the great bank holiday getaway amid warnings of travel chaos on the roads and railways.

With dry and bright weather forecast for most, more than 17 million trips are expected to be made by car over the long weekend.

The RAC urged drivers to set off as early as possible or "be prepared to spend longer in traffic", with particularly heavy traffic on the M5.

Transport analytics firm Inrix warned the M5 between Bristol and Devon will probably bear the brunt of traffic, with the stretch from J15 north of Bristol to J23 at Bridgwater likely to see some of the worst holdups.
