Tractors join 114-mile pylon scheme protest

ANGRY farmers parked their tractors in the middle of a village in protest at controversial National Grid plans for a 114-mile pylon route.

The demonstration in Cotton, Suffolk, was one of at least eight across East Anglia as part of a day of action in outcry at the proposals to transport green electricity through the structures from Norwich to Tilbury in Essex.

Andrew Bullicks, who runs a family farm in the Cotton area, said one-third of his land will be unusable while the pylons are built.

The 62-year-old told the Express: "The whole project is an absolute nonsense. It's supposed to be a net-zero project. The whole net-zero thing is a b****y nonsense when it comes to schemes like this. It's going to have a massive impact on our business."
