British man among 95 deaths as year’s worth of rain falls in a day

AT least 95 people including a 71-year-old British man have been killed in devastating flash floods sweeping through Spain.

The UK victim was rescued from his home in Alhaurin de la Torre, near Malaga, but suffered hypothermia and cardiac arrests before dying in hospital, local officials said.

Dozens of bodies of children and adults were recovered across Spain yesterday, with the death toll expected to rise further.

Worst hit was the south east, especially the Valencia region, where a year's worth of rain fell in less than a day.

Horrifying footage on social media showed a woman being swept away as other terrified residents clung to trees.

In other clips a woman and her dog were rescued from neck-high water while dozens of vehicles were dragged and dumped by torrents that raged through the streets.
