Songbird killer fined £28,000 after two raids

ONE of Cyprus's biggest songbird killers has been fined nearly £28,000 following police raids.

TV presenter Chris Packham and his stepdaughter, Megan McCubbin, have been highlighting the illegal practice alongside the Daily Express since last month.
Up to 500,000 of the migrating birds are killed each year on the Mediterranean island for a delicacy called ambelopoulia — grilled, fried, pickled or boiled songbirds.
It is a traditional dish enjoyed by native Cypriots and served in some restaurants.
