SNIFFER dogs will be key to the large policing operation keeping the Grand National safe, officers say.
The Randox Grand National Festival begins on Thursday, peaking at 4pm on Saturday with the famous 34-horse, 30-fence steeplechase.
Expecting 150,000 racegoers, Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton has told us he will be deploying a huge range of resources to ensure an orderly sporting event at Aintree.
He said: "Antisocial behaviour, hate crime, disorder and other criminal activity will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly.
"There will be a highly visible and increased police presence in and around the area of the racecourse, but the public should not be alarmed.
