Signs of hope despite house prices hitting six-month low

THE average house price stood at £297,755 last month following six months of falls but property experts say the signs are good for a rebound.

Halifax revealed property values dropped 0.6% - £1,789 - from November, leaving them just above June’s average of £297, 755.

The bank’s mortgage chief Amanda Bryden said: “Overall activity levels were resilient over the last year and broadly in line with the pre-pandemic average. Various forces are poised to somewhat buoy the market heading into 2026.”

These include mortgage rate cuts following uncertainty over the Budget and the usual new year boost to the market.
