'Scrapping most jury trials will help rape victims get justice'

BRITAIN’S justice system is set for a major overhaul tomorrow when David Lammy unveils plans to scrap jury trials for all but the most serious crimes.

The Cabinet minister claimed rape victims will be denied justice unless the change is made.

And Mr Lammy said his new system “finally gives brave survivors the justice they deserve”.

The Justice Secretary said record backlogs of nearly 80,000 cases — double the number in 2019 — meant thousands of victims were waiting years for a court outcome.
