ALESSIA RUSSO was the pretender to Ellen White’s crown in England’s glorious run at Euro 2022 but the apprentice has now become the master.

White retired from international football just weeks after the Lionesses lifted the trophy at Wembley, and Russo has since grown into the role of starting striker.

Just as Russo has become first choice for Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman, so she has now passed on the super-sub torch to Arsenal teammate Michelle Agyemang.

The 19-year-old Agyemang has scored twice in her three substitute appearance at Euro 2025, the latest deep into stoppage-time against Italy in the semifinal.

“Michelle has been doing an incredible job but Alessia’s been running herself into the ground,” said England midfielder Keira Walsh.
