WOULDN'T it be great if we could all take a Friday off.

I already know what I'd get up to; a brisk walk to Costa first thing to peruse the papers over a hot cappuccino.

Then, while the kids are at school, my husband and I would head out to a cosy pub somewhere for a slap-up meal and a cold glass of pinot, then a walk along the river with our sausage dog Arthur. A perfect day.

Well, for some of the population, fantastic Fridays could soon become a reality. And if the unions get their way, it'd all be on the taxpayers' buck! Yep, you've read that correctly. What started out as a Lib Dem experiment at South Cambridgeshire Council, now has the UK's biggest union, Unison, saying freebie Fridays are a bloody good idea.
