LUKE DONALD will challenge his European team to "do something amazing" this week and join the legends who have won the Ryder Cup in the USA.

The Team Europe skipper is one of just 37 European players to have tasted victory on the other side of the Atlantic - the first win away win did not happen until 1985.

Home dominance has seen the hosts win eight of the past nine Ryder Cups and the Americans are again the bookies' favourite this week. Europewill gather at Bethpage Black today before Friday's opening tee shots.

Donald, who guided his side to win back the trophy in Rome two years ago, said: "Winning is hard.

You look at three of the past four aways for us and they have been quite significant wins for the U.S. If you go back enough, we have had quite a lot of success.

"Only 37 European players have won away, which is a small number.
