Give knurr-and-spell a bash

BOZ Davison is going out to bat for long-lost pub game knurr-and-spell.

The sport was played in pubs across South Yorkshire and Lancashire but vanished in the 1970s.

Players use a sprung trap - the spell - to launch the knurr, a ball, then thwack it with a special stick.

The winner is the person who can hit the knurr furthest.

Boz, inset, from Crane Moor, near Barnsley, said: "I came across a book with some pictures of knurr-and-spell from 1933.
