Library's adverts must be removed

EYESORE adverts plastered across a historic Grade II-listed library building are to be ripped down almost five years after they were illegally put up.

It has taken a two-year legal battle, but now the government has ruled that enforcement action can begin to remove the 14 giant banners adorning a century-old site.

Bradford Council first issued the notice against the owners of the city’s former Great Horton Library in March last year.

It demanded the 14 banners festooned on the culturally significant brickwork be removed within a month. But owners Uneekhomes Real Estate — based in the building - appealed, meaning no action could be taken until there was a decision.

Now, 21 months after it was lodged, a government-appointed planning inspector has thrown out the appeal.
