Letby and former hospital chiefs call for halt to inquiry

CONVICTED child serial killer Lucy Letby has called for the public inquiry into events surrounding her crimes to be suspended.

Her solicitors have written to Lady Justice Thirlwall saying her final report would “not only be redundant but likely unreliable” unless it was paused pending the outcome of the ex-nurse’s battle to clear her name.

It comes as the inquiry chairwoman told the hearing that former senior hospital bosses at the time of Letby’s crimes have also requested the inquiry be suspended. Closing submissions in the inquiry which began last September are due this week, including from the victims' families.

Letby’s solicitors’ letter said: “The terms of reference of the inquiry were drafted on the basis Lucy Letby is guilty and therefore will not consider any evidence which contradicts this.
