Labour members side with Burnham over Starmer in poll

ALMOST two-thirds of Labour members would back Andy Burnham over Sir Keir Starmer in a leadership contest, the latest polling has revealed.

The survey of 704 party members found that 62% are behind the Greater Manchester Mayor, while just 29% now support the Prime Minister.

Some 9% said they did not know or would not vote, according to the YouGov poll carried out a week ago.

It came as Mr Burnham declared his support for reversing the result of the 2016 EU referendum at the Labour conference in Liverpool, which has been overshadowed by talk of his leadership ambitions.
