THERE were only the sounds of silence after a new rechargeable battery a homeowner had bought for his doorbell resisted sparking into life.

Trying for a refund didn’t get far at first either, with Ed Hughes trying to contact the seller Lulili Group.
Ed sent recorded delivery letters to its PO Box to no avail.
