'It's time to stop punishing us for deciding to drive a car'
Daily Express
|March 16, 2026
AKE the trains — we live in a country where despite forking out a decent chunk of cash to travel during peak times, your service can be cancelled at the last moment or delayed.
Even if it does turn up on time, you are not guaranteed a seat or a working loo onboard. How can this ever be acceptable? When you turn up at a railway station or look at a rail company website and are told they cannot guarantee you will reach your destination, is it no wonder we might want to reach for our car keys?
Then there are bus services. Forget it if you live in a rural area where services seem sporadic or stop running by 6pm.
If you live in a big town or city, you might have better luck, but would you feel safe travelling alone at night on a bus? Not me.
