Hunt for driver after girl, 3, killed in tram crash horror

A VAN driver who fled when a three-year-old girl was killed on a pavement after a crash with a tram was being hunted last night.

Sources suggested police were seeking a male suspect.

The white Mercedes-Benz van hit a Metrolink service in Manchester city centre and ended up on the pavement where it struck the girl, killing her.

Flowers and messages were later left at the scene and shocked shop workers described hearing a loud bang.

One said: “The collision must have made the van go onto the pavement where it hit the poor girl.”

Heartbroken

Another added: “I can't imagine what her parents are going through.”
