Sales of popular cold and flu remedies have spiked earlier than usual this year, with Boots reporting a 35% rise in sales of Boots Dual Defence Nasal Spray in September, compared with the same month last year.

The high-street chain also saw a 20% week-on-week rise in sales of cough and cold medicine and a 40% surge in sales of lateral flow tests for Covid.
