Brit raises his game on the biggest stage again to claim Major scalp of a 20th seed
ARTHUR Fery revealed he “loves big stages” after a case of deja vu got him off to a flying start at the Australian Open.
Britain's world No. 186 stunned Flavio Cobolli 7-6 6-4 6-1 to advance to round two, and banked a guaranteed minimum £112,000 in prize money.
Fery earned a statement win (right) over then-world No.22 Alexei Popyrin at Wimbledon last summer, when Popyrin was the No.20 seed.
And it was the same story in Melbourne, where world No.22 Cobolli was also seeded 20th but became Fery’s latest victim.
It has become something of a lucky number for the French-born Brit, who told the John Cain Arena crowd: “Seems like I like drawing the 20th seed in main draws of Slams!
