Claims they are advised to have babies fostered...or quit
WOMEN sailors in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary say they are left with no option but to have an unwanted abortion to keep their naval careers.
One claimed: "I was told, 'Mothers are a nuisance and it's better for the organisation if we have none', and, 'We should be grateful, as having children is a lifestyle choice."
The women, who have spoken up on condition of anonymity, claim they are asked to find round-the-clock childcare after giving birth so they can return to sea.
Some say it was suggested they put their baby into temporary foster care.
The alternative is to go on special leave with no pay - or quit.
This is the case even if the woman's partner is in the RFA or Royal Navy.
