Extra chemo can increase survival

A SHORT extra boost of chemotherapy can increase cervical cancer patients' survival chances by 40%, experts say.

A trial involving 500 women has shown that five years later, 80% of those receiving the additional induction chemo treatment were still alive, compared with 72% on the standard regime.

Results also showed cancer had not returned or spread in 73% of the extra chemo group, compared with 64% in the control group.
