DIY wills – five fatal errors

TRYING to save money by writing your own DIY will could end up costing your loved ones far more when you're gone, experts warn.

A growing number of Britons are writing their own wills using cheap online packages or digital tools, with some costing less than £20 and taking just 15 minutes to complete.

But cutting corners now could lead to financial chaos and bitter family rows later.

Almost one in four people now prepares a will without a professional. But consumer group Fairer Finance warns many services are unregulated and poorly designed. This increases the risk of disputes or even invalid wills that send your assets to the wrong people.
