Crackdown on fly-tippers

FLY-TIPPERS will be jailed and their vehicles crushed in a Government crackdown.

Drones and mobile CCTV cameras will identify their vans so they can be destroyed by officials.

The measures, announced by Environment Secretary Steve Reed, follow 1.15 million fly-tipping incidents in 2023-24, up from 957,000 in 2018-19. A third involved waste dumped on pavements or roads.

There were just 1,598 prosecutions over 12 months.

Mr Reed said: “The Government is calling time on fly-tipping. I will not stand by while this avalanche of rubbish buries our communities.”
