Ceasefire talks positive but no deal imminent'

HAMAS leader Ismail Haniyeh flew to Egypt yesterday to take part in peace talks over the terror group's war with Israel - but a deal was said to be "not imminent".

Haniyeh went to Cairo in what negotiators hoped was another sign of movement towards a possible end to the conflict, which started in October.

Talks were continuing late last night as the possibility of a second truce was discussed but the fighting and air strikes continued.

It was Egypt, alongside Qatar, which helped broker a truce last month. That led to a week-long ceasefire and the exchange of around 100 hostages held in Gaza for Palestinians freed from 61, Israeli jails.

Haniyeh, right, who is usually based in Qatar, the headed high-level Hamas delegation to Egypt to meet the country's chief of intelligence.

Hours earlier IRNA Qatar's prime minister met the heads of the CIA and Israel's intelligence service Mossad in Poland as part of attempts to secure a further hostage deal.
