Calm before Trump storm

YOU could easily fail to realise Donald Trump's inauguration is two days away. There is a huge security presence in Washington and miles of barriers surrounding buildings, but there is also a sense of calm days before history will be made. Perhaps it's the snow-covered pavements and avenues of the US capital or the -10C weather keeping locals indoors, Former President Ronald Reagan's executive assistant Peggy Grande told the Express this was merely the "quiet before the storm".

On Monday, hundreds of thousands of Americans including fervent Trump supporters and angry protesters will flock to the city for the inauguration.

It will now take place indoors after sub-zero temperatures were forecast for the swearing-in ceremony.

However, spectators are still expected to begin flooding into viewing areas for live screening from 5am seven hours before Donald Trump makes his second pledge of allegiance. There is a notably different atmosphere to January 2017 when Mr Trump became America's 45th President. Gone is any sense that he won by a fluke this time Mr Trump won the popular vote as well as the electoral college.
