Asylum seeker quotas: councils to get their say

A CAP on the number of refugees using safe and legal routes to Britain will be introduced in January 2025, says the Home Office.
The fluctuating annual total will be "informed" by council estimates of how many they can accommodate.
Immigration minister Robert Jenrick said it will ensure "we do not take more than our public services and communities can cope with".
He said: "The unacceptable number of people making illegal, dangerous and wholly unnecessary small boat crossings is placing an immense strain on housing and services."
