3,700 more families are hit by hated death taxes

THE number of grieving families subjected to inheritance tax (IHT) has risen by 13% in just one year.

Some 31,500 estates paid the levy in 2022-23 — up 3,700 on 2021-22, figures released by HM Revenues and Customs reveal.

The period was before the cuts in business property relief and agricultural property relief as well as the changes that mean pension pots are subject to the duty.
