MUM REVEALS CONSTANT STRUGGLE TO GET HER DISABLED SON ON TO BUSES

- By VERONIQUE HAWKSWORTH AND KATE POUNDS

'They just don't care, all they have to do is press a button'

A CROYDON mum has spoken out about the struggle she faces trying to get her disabled son onto London buses, revealing that drivers often refuse to deploy ramps up to “12 times a week”.

Caught on camera, one incident at 10.45am on May 7 aboard the 197 in Croydon shows the mum pressing the button for the ramp to take two-year-old Charles to a soft play session in his specialist chair - only to be dismissed by the male driver who motioned her to “bump it up” rather than help before driving away.

Later that day, a female driver attempted to lift the chair on board but got back into the cab when the mum said “no”. Thankfully, the situation was resolved once a supervisor stepped in to instruct the driver to lower the ramp enabling mother and son to finally board.

The recurring problem has been documented by the anonymous mum since Charles, who has chronic lung disease and requires a ventilator for most of his day, came home from hospital last year.
