Special mention for two Cov pubs after author's visit to 2,000 boozers

Since turning 18, Mike Critchley's has recorded and graded every new pub he has visited in a little blue notebook; from spit-and-sawdust backstreet boozers to majestic Victorian drinking palaces.

And the 59-year-old sports journalist from Merseyside has picked out several of those highlights and a couple of low points from that 'never ending pub crawl' in the book entitled Happy Hours: A Great British Pub Diary.

Mike spent 12 years living in the West Midlands, and the book features 33 from the Birmingham and the Black Country area but he also ventured to Coventry where two of the city's pubs left a lasting impression.

“The 15th-century Grade II-listed Old Windmill on Spon Street is one of the special pubs of these islands,” Mike said.
