NIGHTCLUBS, churches and padel courts are among the latest suggestions put forward for Coventry's Elephant Building that stands alongside the city’s 1960s swimming pool which could soon be demolished in spite of being a Grade II listed building.

Padel courts and nightclubs among ideas for Elephant

Cllr Jim O'’Boyle, Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change, said talks were ongoing with potential developers keen on bringing the iconic leisure centre back to life. But he hinted that if those talks came to nothing, the mothballed building could also be at risk.

A petition with 725 signatures called on the council to modernise and reopen the building which straddles Cox Street, opened in 1976 and designed as a zincpanelled elephant. The design was an homage to the city’s emblem which appears on Coventry's coat of arms.
