Coventry praised for EV chargers as it has more than five cities combined

COVENTRY boasts more public electric vehicle (EV) chargers than five major northern cities combined, a new study reveals.

The research, conducted by EV buying advice website Electrifying. com, highlights the “patchy provision” of charging infrastructure across the UK, making it difficult for some to transition from petrol or diesel vehicles.

The site is calling for a unified, nationwide strategy for the deployment of public EV chargers, currently managed by local councils.

The study discovered that drivers in the northern cities of Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield have access to a total of 2,485 public chargers, while Coventry alone offers 2,578.

Electrifying.com credits Coventry's impressive tally to its “collaborative, focused approach”.

In comparison, the London borough of Westminster has 2,746 public chargers.

These figures are derived from an analysis of Department for Transport (DfT) data.

Ginny Buckley, chief executive of Electrifying.com, said: “The scale of the disparity is impossible to ignore.”
