Concerns raised over rising HMOs in the borough

‘SERIOUS concerns’ have been raised over the ‘rapid rise’ of HMOs in Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Councillor Michael Bird listed a number of fears he has as the number of Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMO) rise across the borough.

In the past month alone there have been four separate planning applications for HMOs, two just yards away from each other on the same street in Arbury Road. Cllr Bird said he wanted to check what action the council is taking to regulate and monitor HMOs.

Speaking at a full council meeting, Cllr Bird said: “While I understand the need for affordable housing options the rapid rise in HMOs has led to several serious concerns which are likely to impact our communities in future”

He went on to list some of the future concerns, saying: “The presence of undesirable individuals and groups contributing to unsociable behaviour.
