City council finance chiefs say moving in right direction

COVENTRY City Council's finance chiefs are happy the authority is heading in the right direction following an assessment which found that 15 of the 17 standards checked each year were on track.

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) report provides guidance for good and sustainable financial management.

Phil Helm, the council's head of finance, said the report showed things were moving in a 'strong and positive direction.' But he added that in certain areas, Coventry did not fare well against other councils.
