LAST week I attended a local Gooseberry Fair.

It was a jolly affair and a creditable attempt to relive the magic of the traditional fair. However, alas, there was no gooseberry to be seen.

Traditionally, the Gooseberry Fair, not to be confused with the Goosey Fair which is quite a honk in some areas, traditionally has a focus on competitive growing and the ritual weighing of the berries.

Sadly, there was nothing that was hairy, green and tufted to be seen apart from the occasional trendy hairstyle.
