Father jailed for 35 years after trying to kill baby

A WEST Wales father who tried to murder his own baby has been jailed for 35 years.
Rhydian Jamieson was looking after his infant child in January last year when, “in a fit of temper’, he threw her at a television, causing catastrophic injuries.
The defendant then hid the gravely ill child under a duvet in a bedroom and ran away.
Swansea Crown Court heard the defendant later sent messages to his partner - who was out buying nappies - saying he was was “sorry” and had “snapped”.
He then contacted two of his online gaming friends to tell them he had killed his daughter. When one of his friends told him to call for an ambulance and return to the house, Jamieson replied: “She's dead, dude.”
Family members later found the infant laying face-down on a bed under a duvet and called the emergency services.
The infant was rushed first to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen and then, due to the severity of her injuries, to a special unit in the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
The court heard the baby had suffered bleeding on the brain, a fractured skull, haemorrhaging in both eyes, and bruises to her face and body.
