THE recent Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Seminar, hosted on June 12 at Nandoni River View Lodge outside Thohoyandou, focused on equipping youths with the skills and knowledge needed to help vulnerable communities become more resilient in the face of climate change and disaster risks.

Seminar empowers youth in climate, disaster risk reduction

Dr Takalani Makananisa, head of the Provincial Disaster Centre, said the event aimed to strengthen young people’s role in building disaster-resilient communities. He spoke of the importance of municipalities and traditional leaders in spatial development and land-use management to reduce disaster risk.

Greenhouse gas emissions remain a major challenge, and we all have a role to play in keeping the world’s average temperature below 1.5°C, in line with national climate goals,” he said.
