Tirumala Silk Scam: Polyester Dupattas Passed Off as Pure Silk for a Decade

A decade-long fraud has come to light in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), where polyester shawls were supplied in the name of pure mulberry silk.

A routine vigilance inspection exposed the scam, revealing that lakhs of dupattas supplied to the temple between 2015 and 2025 were made of synthetic material worth only 350-2400, while TTD was billed 1,389 for each piece. The shawls were supplied by M/s VRS Exports and its associated units Tirumala Fabrics, Nana Cottages and VM Raja Powerloom all operating from Nagari, the constituency of former YSRCP minister R.K.
