July 16 Issue

In the summer of 2025, a new chapter opened in American politics with the announcement of the America Party—a brainchild of Elon Musk, the world’s most talked-about entrepreneur. His move to shake up the entrenched two-party system has sparked intense reactions across the political spectrum, from passionate support to outright hostility. But what do Americans truly think about Musk, the America Party, and the prospects for this bold political experiment?

The Rise of the America Party: A Musk Revolution?

On July 5, 2025, Elon Musk declared the formation of the America Party on his social media platform, X. The announcement followed a public and bitter split from President Donald Trump, marking a dramatic escalation of longstanding tensions between the two figures. Musk denounced the existing parties for “unchecked government spending and corruption,” calling the U.S. a “unified political machine driven by waste and self-interest” rather than a democracy.

His criticism landed at a moment of deep political polarization, when discontent with both the Republican and Democratic parties had reached a historic high. According to a Gallup poll, 58% of American adults favored the idea of a third party—a number that’s remained steadily above 50% for two decades. For Musk, this widespread frustration signaled an opening.

“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.””—Elon Musk on X

Polls and Public Sentiment: A Nation Divided

Early polling captured the nation’s mixed feelings. Quantus Insights found that 40% of Americans might support an Elon Musk-led party, with 14% “very likely” and 26% “somewhat likely” to back it. Yet, 38% said they would be unlikely to support such a party, and 22% were unsure. Notably, male Republicans and independent men showed the strongest interest, while older and Democratic voters were more skeptical.
