Gutted runners reflect on cancelled race

DISAPPOINTMENT, frustration and disbelief best described the mood at the starting line of this year's Sanlam Cape Town Marathon - cancelled due to unsafe conditions caused by the wind.

The decision followed emergency meetings between the race organizers and the Joint Operations Committee, including City Disaster Risk Management, Safety and Security, medical services, and South African Police Services.

Runner Rowan Abrahams, who logged 600 km of training over 18 weeks, expressed profound disappointment, having altered his diet and social life for the event.
